Chemistry as the studies about matter
April 17, 2008 12:43 pm Science & ProgressChemistry is a natural science that studies matter. It was born out of alchemy, an ancient science which sought, among other objectives, to create the elixir of life and do gold from iron. Nowadays chemistry just scrutinizes the components of different matters, their atomic structure and the processes that occur while various matters are being combined. What is more, chemistry as a science is associated with providing a description for the forenamed processes in the form of a law. Chemistry interacts quite closely with biology and physics.
This science is subdivided into inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, physical chemistry and lots of other more narrow spheres.
Organic chemistry is named organic because it was thought that organic combinations had a lot to do with life. But today's chemistry has proved that not all the objects of organic chemistry are connected to the life and living organisms. Some inorganic elements as cooper or iron, for instance, play the essential part in the in the processes of living organisms.
Organic chemistry performs the analysis of substances which are made of carbon and hydrogen. That science studies their construction, properties, composition and reactions. There are lots of frequently used products that couldn't be developed without the researches of organic chemistry.
Analytical chemistry studies composition of organic and inorganic substances. The molecules and atoms of the substance are studied in details by that science. It also executes the researches to define the composition and features of given components. Analytical chemistry is experimental in nature and in that way it is similar to physical chemistry. As is focused on experiment and stable facts, its results are useful for biomedical or environmental monitoring.
